First Bossche Pride Walk attracts hundreds of participants
The first Pride Walk in ’s-Hertogenbosch was a great success. On Thursday 18 June, an estimated 400 people walked through the city centre. The turnout was much higher than expected: the organisers had hoped for around a hundred participants.
A colourful procession made its way from the station through the city centre to the Verkadefabriek. At the front, dozens of community members carried a 25-metre rainbow flag. A long procession followed, with more people joining along the way. The Pride Walk received a warm welcome: people on café terraces applauded and passers-by showed their support.
Visibility still matters
The Pride Walk took place during Pride Month and highlighted the visibility, safety and acceptance of LGBTIQ+ people. Although many residents experience Den Bosch as inclusive, not everyone feels free to walk hand in hand or openly be themselves. That is why events like this are still needed. The large turnout showed the strong desire for connection, solidarity and visibility in the city.
Working together in the city
The Pride Walk coincided with the opening of the Queer Arts Festival at the Verkadefabriek. Volunteers from COC Noordoost-Brabant helped organise the walk alongside other organisations and volunteers. Participants and spectators responded positively. Hundreds of people walking through the city together, led by the large rainbow flag, made a lasting impression.
After this first edition, there is a clear wish for the event to return. The first steps towards an annual Bossche Pride have been taken!
